Its early beginnings as a social networking and online dating site corresponds with the broader emergence of kink culture during the “Internet Age.”

As part of the growth of his online matchmaking business, American internet entrepreneur Andrew Conru, who holds a PhD from Stanford, launched ALT in the late 90s.

ALT’s roots are linked to the development of the larger FriendFinder Networks, originally created as Various, Inc., even though it is an internet dating service that primarily concentrates on the kink and BDSM community.
