If you have been dating someone for a while, you may be at the point where you want to go to the next level.
In order to successfully move into the relationship phase, there are a few things you should and can do.
Do A Self Assessment
Ensure that you assess yourself to find out if this is what you truly want.
There is no point trying to enter a relationship if you aren’t entirely sure that this is what you want to do.
A relationship is a lot more than dating.
It requires a great deal more sacrifice of your time, patience and feelings.
Are you ready for this?
Do A Long-Term Assessment
After a self assessment, it’s important to also look down the road.
The strong emotions you may be feeling right now can easily blind you from considering the long-term prospects of a possible relationship.
Is this a person that you see yourself with in a year or more?
You do not want to invest the time and emotions on something that even you can’t see a real future in.
Talk To Your Friends
Assuming that your friends have already met this person, it would be a good idea to get their honest opinion about them.
The key word here is ‘honest.’
They should feel comfortable enough to give you both the good and the bad about how they feel about this person.
With your emotions the way it is, your judgment can easily be clouded.
Getting the honest opinion of your friends will help you in this process.
Learn About Their Past Relationships
If they are willing and open to discussing it, do take the opportunity to learn about this person’s past relationships.
You do not have to be nosy about it.
If a past relationship comes up in discussion, the opportunity is there to learn more.
This gives you a good idea of just how reliable this person will be in a relationship.
Inform this person that they are the only one you are dating and see how they respond.
If they say that they are dating other people, don’t be afraid to ask them if they can date you exclusively.
By doing this, you put yourself in a much better position of starting a relationship with this person.
If they feel the same way about you as you do about them, they will have no trouble agreeing to that.
